Hi all. I am doing a bit of an online (as well as offline) survey about what YOU think defines Australias culture.

This could be a quintessential song, a person, a personality trait, a book, someone famous, in fact almost anything!

I am just looking for various opinion on this subject before I present a report about it.

Thanks to all who respond! :]

I think Australia has very unique, amazing animals. And when I think of Australia- I think of the accent, kangaroos, koalas, wallabies, and those Tasmanian devils. I went there about 7 years ago for a month. I have family there. I had the best time!! I will hopefully visit again soon!

I think yrs. ago Australian culture was stronger, today we still try to identify with the myth and glorification of life in the sticks, but not many including myself actually have a clue. Today I think our self identity and culture is very much influenced/limited by American ways/goals and ideals.

Ppl.. that stand out for me are Gough Whitlam, what he tried to achieve was for the ppl. and the country not for the monied corporation. Bands like Midnight Oil and Men at Work are very Aussie to me.

Geez hun, about Steve Irwin and his "Crikey" catchcry or his passion for wildlife and the environment.............. his beautifull spirit lives on in his adorable child Bindie and his lovely wifes childrens afternoon programme focusing on nature and animals......... :0)

it was his loving, nuturing kind and passionate spirit .......... his totally laid back charm........ that he injected into every little thing he did that makes him spring to mind as an Australian icon ♥

Australian culture is defined by: mateship, having a fair go attitude, relaxed occasionally cheeky nature, sun and outdoors, beer, bbq's, friends, having an "underdog" mentality, ie. sticking up for the underdog....

gee, so many things come to mind.

first and foremost, id'e start with aboriginals, their beautiful culture, not to mention their ceramonial dancing, our kangaroos, koalas, crocodiles, kookaburra's, magpie's etc. etc.

steve irwin, john farnham, smokey dawson,

barbeques, beaches, what's left of our unspoilt forests, our mad passion for football........oooh! i could go on and on.
