Why are Marathi people so racist?

I don't intend to disrespect marathis but I have been in Pune as part of my job for a year now and my experience with marathi people havn't been very pleasant. My boss here is a marathi. And I have my colleague working with me who is also a marathi and we both report to the same boss. I observed that although I am a much better and skilled performer than my marathi colleague, my boss never acknowledges me but he always acknowledges and spends time with my marathi colleague no matter how **** his work is just because he is a marathi. I am not an athlete but have a few extra pounds. And for that reason my marathi boss corners me all the time. Whereas my marathi colleague is twice as fat as me, he is fat as hell and my boss doesn't say anything to him whereas they both don't hesitate to make fun of me for not having a well-toned body. And not just my boss, I have observed the same attitude in many other marathi people I have met. In a corporate office your cultural background doesn't outline you, your skillset and performance does. Why are marathi people so racist and pompous? What's the problem with them? I am from Kolkata by the way and a bengali. And when outsiders come to our city, most of us welcome them with open arms. I just don't understand how the marathis are so more special than everyone else in the country such that they have to show this indifference towards outsiders. They think their culture and state is better than all others in the country and the funny thing is they have figured it out even without ever going out of Maharashtra! Yes marathi people rarely cross Maharashtra borders. Shivaji Maharaj was a great personality and I respect him but I am sorry to say that most of his so called followers don't deserve any praise.

Hey Rivo , I am a Marathi person . I am not answering or giving you excuses why this thing happened to you , i am just telling you , Maharashtrian culture is not like that , We also respect others, we don't want to pretend that we are different than other Indians. As you are telling what is happening with you that shows they are not at all worthy to call themselves as marathi/ Maharashtrian .

But as they born in maharashtra and i am also a maharashtrian . i thing I should say sorry to you whatever happened with you on behalf of them . Just ignore them and enjoy the CULTURAL CAPITAL OF MAHARASHTRA , PUNE..

and one more thing i wanted to bring in your attention that you used words that ""marathi people rarely cross Maharashtra borders"" I thing it's not correct. First thing is that most of the Urbanisation and industrialisation We don't require to cross our BORDERS. And another thing is many of the persons have crossed the so called borders and make us feel proud that we are Maharastrian. e.g.Smt PRATIBHA PATIL.

I am one another victim of racism by a typical Puneri marathi family. I recently got married and had shifted with my wife to Pune because of job. I rented a 3 bhk flat here but when land lord came to know that I am a non marathi he hesitated but I was ready to pay good amount he gave me the flat. Landlord is an old man of 65 years and I barely talk to him because he treats me as an alien and his behaviour is not at all acceptable. Its summer time here in Pune I asked the land lord that I need to install an AC for which i need to drill a hole in the wall to install a split AC. Landlord bluntly denied me saying he wont allow me to drill any hole, I humbly asked him how will I live in extreme summers without AC here, try to understand, he bluntly replied that if you want to stay here stay without AC or other wise leave my house and find another place. It was really shocking to me we have just shifted here and have started settling but this man has no courtesy at all, I told him is that a joke that I leave the house , you have taken security from me , I am always paying you rent on time and creating no issues for you, but why are you treating me like this, he said I am like this If you want to live here live without AC or else just leave. I discussed the issue with the property broker and now he is also not answering my calls. I dont know how tohandle this situation. Is there any legal court or jurisdiction where I can file a complain because it is very difficult for us , and I am new here.



Overall I had a very very bad experience , may be I am unfortunate but people here really are racist. I have always been polite with him but this man he is very bad.



I request if someone can give me some legal advise on this issue so that I can take some legal actions against this man. he has taken huge security deposit from me and mentally harassing me.



Pune has broken my heart, I have to stay here because of my job but people here are not polite and gentle.



Sad I never expected this atmosphere in Pune.

Listen brother join gym , as you enter office tell everyone Hi with a smile & as you leave you office tell everyone bye with a smile mind your own business & as you fulfill your requirement with the company or good experience then leave it & move on ....just remember Khudi ko karla buland itna ki asma jhuk jaya khuda bhi pucha tusse bata teri raza kya hai .......if need prophet become a chameleon & take out profit ot of everyone not only marathi & build your body join gym take supplement directed by a doctor be strong /bold & smart we are bengali we can predict any where brother ...........

Honestly I don't think that ' if u r nice Puneaites r nice to you. The questions on professionals as to which place u belong to; or y have u come here for a living and more are often cornered on professionals. Their growth is hindered by localities. They r even mocked for not being able to survive in their home town. To site a couple of incidents... My brother has been a victim of this racist behaviour; there was this relative of a friend who was scorned in such a manner that he lost his confidence level and came back to south.

As for all states have this attitude.. I would like to opine against it as they recognise and welcome other states Talents and efficiency despite of the fact that they support their language.

Why to target only Marathi...Entire india is raciest.. Few years back Kannada targeted north east people, Tamilians dont like Telugu in their state, Punjabi dont like Haryanvi,Bangali hates Bihari ..This ******* courtry is raciest..

Racism everywhere based on State ,Langauge,Caste,Religion,Money,Color,Gender.. This mentality needs to be changed and there should be strong laws against it..India is fucked up becoz of this..and good people suffer from this..

I guess there are such people in every state of India. You can see such people even in world. It's happening. There are neutral minded good people too. Don't worry about them. Keep your side safe. Don't think about it. If you do, a spirit of hatred or impatience may possess and make you to do some mistakes without your own knowledge. At this situation smile and silence is the best remedy. If you want to tell anything tell "I find happiness in others' happiness even when they get it by making fun of me." Gradually they will change their attitude. Nothing is permanent in this world. One day everyone must change.
