Why am I seeing so many questions like: "what do you think of the name Chavlyn-Brie-Rumour etc?" You get the idea... Do all the trash HAVE to give their children trashy names?

Names seem to go round in fashions - in my Mother's day (she is 90 years old) girls names were flowers, Rose, Violet, Lily and so on with the males having names like Ernest, Harold, Arthur. My generation have names like Margaret, Diane, Maureen, Brian, Norman and Roy. My Children's generation are all the Sarah's, Victoria and Camilla's, the James', Matthews and Andrews. It is their children that are getting the weird names except that I see some "old fashioned" names coming back - Alfie, Emily, Poppy, Rose and Oliver, so cheer up, this current silly name phase won't last long and then we will be back with the boring John and Jane type names again.

Personally, I think it's a bit cruel when parents give their kids weird names, how are they expected to go through their whole lives with a name like Moonshine Saffron or Daffodil Kitkat? I suppose celebrities giving their kids weird names has an influence. But apparently, it's to make their children's names stand out. It's crazy, there's nothing wrong with normal names, I think they're much nicer and prettier than weird/bizarre names.

I agree! And think of the poor teachers in our schools who have to try and pronounce all of these names that these crazy parents invent! And I think most of them actually are invented, because they sure aren't in any baby name books I have read! I think a child's name should be carefully considered especially if they have a long, or unusual last name, or will have difficulty learning to spell or write their name. It's a shame some parents do this to their kids!

It's the fashion. I'm sure in 30 years time it'll be the norm for the young generation to have strange names.
When I was given the name Darren, some 40 years ago, the midwife thought my parents were mad, and my grandparents thought my parents had gone doolally. Nowadays, though, there are Darrens everywhere.

I had a friend in high school named Birch Leaf. She was mad that her sister got a normal name- Margaret Elizabeth.
Another girl's parents obviously didn't say her name out loud first-Darla May Dye.
I don't understand why parents do that to their kids. If they have to give them an unusual name, it should be for a middle name so the kid can choose to use the initial only.

It's the parents deluding themselves that they are still hip and trendy by giving their children ridiculous names. The problem is that we have gone from unusual but relatively sensible names to outrageously stupid ones as the parents try and out do each other.

Hate to say this,BUT, it`s a class and education thing. Although to be honest posh kids with daft names, Heracles, Gethsemene, etc,are to be expected. When the Snots family, shout out, "Fabian and Moonblessing, leave the bleedin dog alone", that too is to be expected.

i suppose that they are trying to make a statement and have their kids stand out in a crowd, soon it will be un usual to have a plain name ,but i agree some of them are ridiculous. people should call their kids a nice Irish name , cant go wrong there

they have no concept of the 'cute' named child growing up
can you imagine having to call an older child indoors or being a resident in a care home for the elderly?! i think these parents should be banned from doing this to their children - it is cruelty to children

Omg, I love you!! All of my friends think that all these different names are cute, but they are NOT!! They are silly and make no sense. What ever happened to naming your child after a family member or something like that. It makes me crazy.

I agree. Peaches, Pixie & Fifi Trixibelle (Bob Geldof) - another example of pop star names gone weird. At least Tiger Lily is halfway decent.
