i live in the L.a. area in california. Ive always found an intrest in free masonry. Everytime i hear about freemasonry something clicks in my head like i should know more about it. While i was working i met a freemason, I asked questions and was very excited but he just showed me his black ring and said i should go for it. I didnt want to bother him too much after all he was getting breakfast with his family. I am 22, male and i do believe in a supreme being. Ive asked one of the masons here for more information but i was told theres 2 types. co masonry and masonry brotherhood. I want to see if some other masons can explain the difference and do they work together or see one another as an immitation or the wrong way? I try and look information up but i just cant tell which information is official and which is just immitation or false. The reason i want to join is to help others and improve my self spiritually and mentally. I believe freemasonry can enhance the way i see life.

If you are interested in joining Freemasonry, please look at the link below. You'll find a Lodge in L.A. that is part of regular Freemasonry. Contact the secretary, and I am sure he will be very willing to assist you .

To become one, you start by asking one. You don't need to be nervous, most Freemasons love talking about it, and most lodges welcome young men who are qualified and want to join . Take advantage of these sites below, because the person the recomends you must be from your Jurisdiction (a.k.a L.A.)

Feel free to write me if you need any further help, or have any other questions.

ADD ON 10 Jan- Just to let you know, it isn't dangerous to talk to people or anyone about Freemasonry. Every Freemason knows his limits of conversation with someone who is not a member. I think what everyone is trying to express is that you find the right Lodge. To ensure that you hook up with regular Lodge (what we call a regular Lodge is also called main stream-one that has the right to visit the majority of Lodges you find around the globe) visit the site below.

A good way to start is by going to that building with the square and compasses some evening when the lights are on, most lodges meet at 7 or 7:30 in the evening, so if you get there around 6:00 pm you stand a good chance of finding someone to talk to. The way I contacted the Masons here in Albany was to send an email to the only masonic body I could find on the web- it turned out to be the Scottish Rite (which I could not join at that time) but they forwarded my email to another lodge, and I was mailed a petition and told to come by in the evening to talk. I've never regretted it, just wish I'd done it sooner.

Co-masonic simply means that it is men and women permitted to join.

Freemasonry in the strictest sense is available to males only in the USA.

As far as your approach, you may contact the Grand Lodge in California first (in the USA, Grand Lodges oversee the lodges in their jurisdiction - 1 per state + Washingto DC) - they will get someone from a local lodge to contact you.

You can also go to a local lodge, note their meeting times and dates and phone number and contact them directly - many lodges have websites and you can email them.

You will meet with them and get to know each other a bit first, then you may petition the lodge. If you want to check out other local lodges before deciding on the one to petition that is certainly your right, and it is recommended that you make the most educated decision about the lodge you select.

Basically, to become a Mason, all a man needs to do is ask of his own volition - the Mason you approach will take it from there. You have identified the first step.

I, too, was interested in Masonry but did not know any masons. You need to find a lodge you are interested in and contact them. I did so and was invited to the social part of the meeting were there was food and fellowship. I got to know some of the fellows and after a number of weeks (my lodge meets weekly, some meet only monthly) I submitted a petition and had two of the brothers vouch for me. The rest is history.

The primary difference between Co-masonry and AF&AM or F&AM is that co-masonry allows women, were AF&AM or F&AM allow males only. Co-masonry lodges are considered 'clandestine' by regular lodges and are not recognized.

i sent you an email with instructions on how to find and contact a local Lodge.

let me know if you need more help.

what you refer to as masonry brotherhood, is freemasonry under (as it were) the UGLE, which is the largest fraternity - with members just about everywhere that you will only be able to visit if you belong to a Lodge chartered by the UGLE

Usually you are invited to the brotherhood. Several of the men in my family are Masons. A Mason is not just going to provide you with information...'always conceal never reveal'. This is the Mason code. The only true and accurate information you will get is going to come from another 'travelling man'. Please, do not approach any brothers that you do not know...this could be dangerous.

I would suggest befriending the Mason you know/met, ask him to just listen to you (don not ask him any questions), tell him why you want to become a Mason and ask him would he consider bringing you in at some point.

Ask the guy that you met to sponsor you. It happens all the time so it really should be a big deal to the guy.
