Why do people blame alcohol for the actions they took they are ashamed of?

I'm just asking out of curiousity, but why is it that when a person has made an error in judgment, they will blame alcohol instead of just the poor judgment? Why not just say, "Yes, I did that. I wish I didn't, but I did. And now, I have to face the consequences?" Why use alcohol as the scapegoat?

Another thing I'm curious about is why people say they were so drunk they don't remember what happened the night before? To me, if you remember that you were drunk, you remember the actions you took.

Is it possible for alcohol to cause selective memory? If not, why do people blame the alcohol for their mistakes?

Well when you consume so much alcohol, it interferes with the memory portion of the brain. YOU do dont remember what has happened the nite before. I on the other hand, most of the time remembers what happen the nite before but some things i can forget. I do take responsibilities of my consumption of alochol but thats the choice i made for myself and i do not go around blaming alcohol.



People always find lame excuse to blame something or osmeone for their actionis instead of blaming themselves. They are in denial about making a mistake. I had to apologize to people for something that i didn't do and it does piss me off about it but ya gotta be the bigger person.

If you drink too much or take too many drugs it can cause short term memory loss where you do or say things you normally wouldn't say or do.And you will remember drinking but after a certain point there is so much in your blood system your brain can't function right.But you still can't blame the alcohol because while you are drinking your body tells you when its time to stop and if you don't listen you are still responsible for your actions,no matter how stupid or bad they was.Also alcohol causes that filter in your head that says don't say or do this or that to turn off,and you end up saying or doing stupid stuff because you ignored the signs it was time to stop.
