Do Americans find it hard having no history or ancient culture of their own?

Is that why they invented Dungeons and Dragons and Xena: Warrior Princess to try to fill in the gaps?

(Cue a load of 'patriotic anti-British revolutionary sentiment')

you mean no ancient history like native americans: zuni, choctaw, cherokee, inuit, iriquois, sioux, chippewa, apache, comanche, delaware, miami, mohawk, tacoma. Those tribes are all american and have everything to do with our history be it negative or otherwise. an american invented the lightbulb, ford the car, americans invented rock and roll, morse code, we landed on the moon first, atomic bombs (and we've used them), the cotton gin (eli whitney), women's liberation, the margarita was invented by a texan, the electric guitar, one of the first suspension bridges, first steel skyscraper, the phonograph (edison), the internet (silicon valley), the PC (IBM, Apple, Microsoft). You can't really talk about american ancient history because american as it is, is barely a couple of centuries old. So when our history becomes ancient, you can't say that we didn't come up with some cool ****.

Not really because most Americans have some other identity in some ancient culture.

Besides, we can intellectually trace this country very far back; the ideas of the founding father were the culmination of many enlightenment ideas.

Also, our history, while relatively short is quite interesting, and the country is so involved in everything that there is tons of interesting stuff to read about. We may not have ancient history, but we OWN modern history, at least for now. That's more exciting I think anyways.

Too many countries live in the glories of the past. The USA may not always be the great future power, but it will always be a country of the future.

Boy .... get into the here and now. Try to research your facts .... and remember when you are pointing that finger, there are three pointing back at you.

Now, for your information - the USA has a history - just as countries in Europe have a history, even though their borders have changed, and one country take over another, it does not erase the whole history.

Let see American Indians have an incredible history. Let's see in China there is texts of trips made to S. America and living among the people there. And Vikings came here. Well before Europeans (proper) made there take over landing.

But again, I am sorry to hear of your ignorance of the long Native American history. Perhaps, you are European, and like the first settlers think that your way of living is the only way. You have not THOUGHT to look further than your own history.

I guess you are forgetting about the little fact that we share a culture. Seems to me we share a language, traditions and customs, and some here even belong to the Church of England (the Episcopalians, as they are known here). Of course, your culture is an amalgam as well, of all the various cultures that invaded England since the Celts came from Gaul.

As for our history, we have plenty, and it's still fresh in our memory. Places like Gettysburg, Yorktown, the Alamo, and Deadwood, are revered for their historical signifigance and draw hundreds of thousands of people every year. How many places in England aside from London (which shouldn't count, since not everybody goes there for the history) or Stonehenge draw those kinds of numbers?

they have culture and history, its the same as ours, dont forget we threw them out 250 years ago. until then the puritans were English...

and as most yanks seem to equate money with everything, then no, they cant appreciate history or culture, which is why we get dross tv... but then again they gave us star trek, stargate, and 24....

some of them know their history, and appreciate it for what it is, some of em are just rednecks, living on roadkill pie, and wearing white bedsheets....

and to clear a few misconceptions. american technology is mostly stolen... we, the English had electricity in our streets in the early 1800's, we had an underground railway while you still shot each other with guns and persecuted to death the indigenous population... and slaughtered the buffallo.

dont get indignant...history isnt what you obviousl;y thnk it is... ours is thousands of years old, what is 250 years compared to that? when your culture is 2000 years old, then your opinion may be worthwhile...

Of course they have a history and culture - before about 1776 it happens to be the same as British history. Strange, that...

Did you initiate off out your question to write a e book, or did innovations purely save coming on your head? i do in contrast to long questions that look to respond to your individual question. although, i think of the yank Indians have been eradicated became into because of fact the government needed their land, however the Indians did not choose to provide up their land, so the government went in and mowed them down and then took the land by potential of rigidity. It became into not a enormously scene. To dum-dum: conflict could be a manner of survival or a thank you to maintain our freedoms so they won't be taken away.

Of course they have a history, they'd just rather pretend most of it never happened, since most of it concerns slaughtering their indigenous population and then picking on every other minority they can think of.Oh yeah, there's also getting involved in conflicts that had absolutely nothing to do with them!
