is being called a "Jew" an insult?

i hear lots of kids younger than me insulting eachother by saying "jew"
like "ur such a friggin jew" and stuff like that.
how did it become an insult? i just think its an really inappopriate word to use as an insult, and racist in a way.
and did u ever call someone that before or hear someone say that?
thanks, i was just curious cuz i never heard anyone say that in highschool, but i hear alot of middleschoolers and younger ppl using that word.

We had a kid in our school (high school) who was saying it. He would always say "You're a such a jew, man". One teacher finally got really fed up with it and made him write a five page report on the Holocaust. He still said it afterwards, but never around teachers.

It really shouldn't be used as an insult, it's really saddening to hear.

But to be called a "Jew" because you are a Jew, there is nothing wrong with that.



It's like being called a God lover when you love God, but non-believers and wicked people will use "God lover" as a gesture of meanness to let you know they do not have love for God.

1. Yes being called a Jew is suppose to be an insult.

2. From what I know, Jewish people were outcasts at some point in history. If I remember correctly from my World Geography class, Some Jewish people stole, and some were wealthier than others and they didn't have to work for that status.

4. No, I've never called anyone a Jew in a inappropriate slang manner. I've heard it plenty of times and I have been called it. I'm not Jewish. I've mostly heard "Don't be a Jew" and "You're just a stupid Jew." I guess it is a substitute for stupid, or retarded. Like "Don't be stupid." or "You're just a stupid retard." It's like any other slang such as gay, fag, homo, and others like that. Like "that's gay." or "You're such a fag." They don't mean it as their true meaning.

Hopefully that helped. I don't exactly know why people use it or who decided to use it because I don't use slangs like that. You will hear a lot of slangs in middle-school and a whole lot more High school. It may be offensive to people, but the ones using the slangs usually don't care.

No, but it can be used that way. It is the same as being called a Pollack, or a German, etc. People call themselves a Jew, it is a description of heritage usually, sometime religion although people usually tend to say I'm Jewish if it is their religion.



People can try to use it as an insult, but kids are stupid in general, and sometimes just parrot their parents. Pay them no attention Either they grow out of it, or luckily you already know some people to avoid in the future.

I'm pretty sure it came from the Comedy Central show, South Park, where one of the characters is in fact a jew. Cartman, the fat one, often makes fun of him with the phrase, "You're such a friggin jew" to explain why he can't do things. As the show gains popularity, kids take after it more. I don't think any of these kids are actually racist; they just think they're cool for watching the TV show. Hope this helped!
