Why do you think celebrities keep denying plastic surgery?

As you may have seen, Renee Zellweger has been quite the topic lately due to her new face or some say un-recognizable face. So why do you think celebrities deny having any work done?

People deny plastic surgery wether they are famous celebriities or not... And this is the same reason why they deny their facial features from the beginning. They just dont feel ok with themselves, their image and therefor they change it. Simple as that. The problem comes when they dont see what they turn into. Getting a plastic surgery is like botox or tattoos. Once you get started you want more and more... and in the pursit of their own definition of perfection or beauty some people can become living monsters.I have many friuends wwho look terrible. Men with turned up asian cartoon alike noses and they are 40's. probably when they're 21 they look fine but as they grow old they look terrible. (and funny enough so that the rest of us can joke about them when they are not around lol). In the case of women is not noticeable bcs women are smaller

Majority don't need it. But you always either have rag mags like yahoo's celebrity bitches slating them on how old and frumpy some of the women look (and yahoo celebrity is VERY guilty for doing that) and they get insecure and then they deny having done it out of shame and guilt, because they know it's wrong and really is not going to change how the feel about themselves from a psychological point.

The better question that should have been asked is Why do celebrities get plastic surgery? Insecurity is the simple answer and yahoo celebrity and it's tween writers are very quick like the rest of the low brow celebrity magazines and tabloids, to point out the flaws of any celebrity for their own gain.

To answer your question: denial of having an issue with their looks, shame and guilt for using plastic surgery to fix what cbt counselling and psychotherapy could actually fix, or maybe real friends that actually care.

I think a lot of plain old poor people would get plastic surgery if they could. The reason many celebrities are celebrities is because they look way better than average. If poor people looked better than average, most of them would be very well employed. But then again, with everyone looking so good, people would have to really prove their talents, and oh well, looks like things are best left the way they are. Let's have more good-looking celebrities and less complaints about what they've done to their faces, unless it's warranted of course.

The answer is simple: here in the United States, plastic surgery is frowned upon. A lot of Americans dislike cosmetic surgery in general - I wouldn't say that they HATE it or think that it's a bad thing, but people who have undergone cosmetic procedures definitely deal with criticism on a regular basis. I'm pretty sure that using plastic surgery for health reasons is socially acceptable, but if aesthetics is the only reason why you underwent cosmetic surgery, chances are people are going to criticize your decision. I don't know if this attitude is prevalent in other countries, but it's definitely prevalent here in the U.S. Americans seldom say good things about the plastic surgery industry. I have lived in the U.S. all my life, and I almost never hear people applaud individuals (both celebrities and ordinary citizens) who have undergone thorough cosmetic surgery. I'm pretty sure that the plastic surgeons themselves also deal with criticism and judgmental people on a regular basis.

Considering this, it's no wonder why Hollywood Celebrities are so reluctant to admit that they undergo cosmetic procedures. However, celebrities aren't the only ones who are like this - even ordinary individuals who live normal, average lives and have visited a plastic surgeon typically don' t reveal to others that they underwent plastic surgery. If we get rid of the stigma that is attached to plastic surgery, celebrities might become more open about cosmetic surgery, but unfortunately I don't think that this will happen anytime soon. I do think that the stigma will stick around for a while. There are probably many reasons why Americans stigmatize plastic surgery, but I think that one of the biggest reasons has to do with stereotypes of people who undergo cosmetic surgery - a lot of people think that individuals who receive plastic surgery are vain, shallow, stuck-up, superficial, etc.

When everyone sees your face constantly you want to, in fact need to, look your best. Your looks are your paycheck. So wanting to look younger without admitting you're getting older is necessary so the casting agents don't start saying, "Well, she looks great, but she's 45 and that's too old to play a twentysomething.

In Zellwegers case, she had some fat removed from her upper eyelid, that's what gave her the slightly squinty eyed look we were used to, but as she got older it was more pronounced, the surgeon removed it, and we're left with a Zellweger who doesn't look the same.

1.) They don't want to admit they're not happy with the results.

2.) They think all surgery should be a private matter.

3.) They want us to believe that they're young.

Renee was adorable. What a shame. Aging is a natural process for us all. Best to make peace with it and to accept the face in the mirror.

I wonder, in the case of Rene Zellweger, if she had regrets after seeing how very different she ended up looking. Now she is playing it off "casually".

From what I heard on The Insider on TV, it can affect all The Bridgett Jones Diary movies, because it sin't good for "business" if the actress or actor looks way different.

Just makes you wonder if they know what they are getting themselves into.

Except for Cher, who is wonderfully and completely honest about having plastic surgery, most celebrities do seem to deny it. I think of a good joke Cloris Leachman told in a 1970s interview: Walking in to the interview late, she said, "I would tell you I had to go to the bathroom but, as you probably know, stars don't have those problems." I have always remembered that as a funny and down-to-earth way of acknowledging Leachman's humanity. I think that most celebrities today want people to believe they kind of are a species apart from the rest of us, as though everything were effortless for them.

I don't think it is just celebrities..the average Joe or Jane would deny it..also celebrities are probably embarrassed about the amount done and the amounts spent when other people are having trouble making ends meet....and now we have celebrity clones...all those folks are starting to look like...reminds you of the book..The Uglies where everyone has surgery on their bodies when they turn sixteen.

to me, Renee looks different because she lost some weight, doesn't have a tan (has changed her makeup foundation to a lighter color), has longer hair (probably fake), and her cheeks aren't as puggy as before, and "maybe" she's gotten lasik since now you can see her eyes....so she looks different, but hey, inside she's the same personality.

I don't know that entertainers or movie people aren't getting cosmetic surgery, in fact for a while there that's all the entertainment shows were talking about (was new cosmetic surgery which some people won't admit to). Stars do what they are required to do by who accepts them for a roll. If they aren't doing anything to themself then its either because the part doesn't call for it or because they aren't getting parts at all. The industry itself requires that you fix yourself up.

I don't see why plastic surgery is such a big deal. What I mean is, if you want it and can afford it, go for it. What did men do without Viagra or Cialis? None. But when those products became available, men started using them. So what's wrong with that? When a product or service becomes available, people will use them, as simple as that.

I am not going to even pretend I know what the California idol/model life is like. The fact they own several million dollar estates makes me realize that there are some HEAVY sacrifices the movie/music/tv industry makes their people do. Clearly she wasn't getting any movie deals and she was backed into a corner; so what are you going to do when you have no other place to go but up (since you are too scared to move down)?
2014-10-23 19:47:05 UTC
Same reason politicians do. Nobody likes to seem fake, but in a business where surface attractiveness counts more than character, it's a double fake - first they fake their appearance, then they lie about faking it. There ARE cases where eyelid surgery is useful; I have a friend whose mother's eyelids drooped so much they interfered with her vision. But mostly it's done because as we age, the fat pads in our faces deteriorate and our facial skin droops. There are exercises to counteract that (Facercise, the yoga "lion" pose, others) but surgery's more profitable.

They are trying to protect their livelihood/careers.

As younger actors and actresses enter Hollywood, the competition gets fierce.

Besides, I honestly think that the majority people, IF THEY HAD THE MONEY, would also opt for some type of plastic surgery or another as they age.

The reasons people have plastic surgery : Self preservation. Personal reasons (famous or not). Portraying an image.

The reasons people try to hide it: Shame to admit they are aging. For the same reason they may not want people to know they had a benign lump in their breast removed --privacy reasons. They are afraid they will no longer be marketable in upcoming actor/actress rolls.

But, deny it, or not confirm it, as they may.........the funniest thing I find about Hollywood not coming clean with their plastic surgery truths is that the truth is in all of the before and after photographs......which do not lie, and show that, indeed, plastic surgery has taken place. We are not stupid.

Democrats like to use foolishness like this question to distract the American public from the real issues. Yahoo! is run by a bunch of Liberal Democrats. Write that you are Republican, supported both President Bush's, Military, McCain, Palin, FOX News or the Koch Brothers, NRA, Death Penalty, Man-Woman Marriage and you are considered "evil." I think they deny it because they want people to believe they look like that naturally and they seem to live in some alternate world where they don't age. I also think celebrities deny it because of their occupation. They MUST look good, but they deny it because they want the casting people to think they look like that naturally because if it's NOT natural, then the casting people may think they are aging fast...in movie roles, that's bad since they take a while to make.

Because they are always scrutinized by critics, competitors and others who want to see them fail. They have to have plastic surgery because they are forced to look perfect on the big screen. That is the nature of their work. So to maintain their public image and PR, they just say they didn't have any work done. They are being politically correct.
2014-10-27 21:29:38 UTC
Everybody wants to be a natural beauty but most of us are not. Celebrities probably feel they need to be perfect at all times. I've heard some girls say at the salon "I want to look natural" whether it be for hair or makeup which makes no sense to me. In that case might as well not get anything but people like to pretend their naturally beautiful and everyone denies that they need the extra makeup, hairdo, spanx etc.
2014-10-23 16:39:21 UTC
They get paid for their looks. Even the worst actress in Hollywood still gets paid because of face, hair, breasts, legs, and butt...

Jennifer Lopez is a HORRIBLE actress and her singing is autotuned dogs howling and yet she has tens of millions of dollars because she's hot.

She is known for her butt... If it came out that her butt was implants then people would call her "Fake" and stop paying to see her famous butt.

We want to pretend that these people are gods... That they are making millions while you are working minimum wage because they are SPECIAL and if you realize that they're not "Special", they just had the cash on hand to get the surgery to look special then that means you could do it too and aren't...

It's ENVY.

I think it is because it is still a taboo. Have you seen the backlash slamming Renee Zellweger? At a certain age, many women in the industry may still want to get young roles. Think about the all the women in Hollywood. How many of them look middle-aged?

Various people might be ashamed of it. They still need the work. of course they do. So they try to stay looking young for as long as possible. But because of the taboo of surger, they are ashamed.

Of course we don't know for certain that Zellweger had surgery.

They are all in the business of VANITY basically...........and don't want to own up to needing HELP to look that good.

They all want to pretend to be naturally Beautiful.

Look at Miranda Kerr. The girl is absolutely STUNNING.........naturally........but she's been busted like a dozen totally photo shopping her pictures.

I mean......she's already GORGEOUS Beyond belief........but still feels the need to be this ridiculous image of unrealistic perfection.

Kim Kardashian you can understand needing a little photo shopping.......because she's really just not all that, without all her war paint, and photo shopping...........

but Miranda Kerr??? It's just SAD that someone who is a world top super model, cheats and photo shops her pictures.

Because they want people to think they are "naturally" beautiful and "naturally" well endowed.

they also know that the minute they look old...there acting parts diminish greatly.

Renee Z was a cute, fresh faced girl next door in Jerry Maguire.

She doesn't look bad now,,,but not as cute back then.

but then to be fair.....nobody would.

Same reason(s) I plan on doing so...

(1) In case it goes bad, they don't want to be seen as a person who painstakingly went out of their way just to end up looking worse.

(2) They want the action to be seen as a part of them... THEIR idea... Them. If it can't be seen as who they were born as it should be seen as who they ENVISIONED themselves as.

These are my guesses.

I'm quite a ways away from the amount needed... saving the amount needed... to change up this "far east" face of mine, which America has made me hate to the core.

I try to be open-minded and say that I've been "made to see the light."

They have to sell records. Look at Nicki minaj.

Self hate. Ethnic celebrities get surgery to fit the white standard of beauty.

The term nautral beauty and natural talent gets thrown around a lot with show biz personalities. There is nothing natural about them, they are manufactured and polished up, re-worked.

I think plastic surgery is great if a person is very unhappy with an asset that can be handled with a surgery. Its not healthy if the person getting plastic surgery is for others not themselves. The face procedues that are being done these days are extreme. Paralyzing your facial muscles wth a deadly badteria is going too far. Also people considere surgery should exajihe their reasons for doing it. And if too many surgeries are preformed on one person, it can tend tro look freaky.

Simply put, they're embarrassed. As a celebrity there is so much pressure to look as good as you possibly can and the older you get, the more your looks start to suffer so they turn to plastic surgery to make themselves look better. It has to be embarrassing to come out and say their beauty is no longer natural so instead of confronting the issue head-on, they just deny, deny, deny.

People shouldn't get plastic surgery unless they have a medical reason I don't think. It often goes wrong or makes you look unnatural and not so good.

People are very harsh on celebrities but the truth is they ARE HUMAN. We all age and there is nothing wrong with that.

They probably don't want it to go wrong or don't think they need it, which in truth they don't. Renee Zellweger is a beautiful woman, so what, she aged a few years, it happens to all of us.

Their appearance is a large part of their work and they are expected to look perfect all of the time from their audience and it's much worse with the internet. Now all the insulting people can congregate online and bash them. Go on any IMDB board for a celebrity and they are constantly picked apart over everything relating to how they look esp. the women although the men are picked apart too. I think Renee may have had work done to her eyes because she was not happy with the way they looked and as you get older, your eyes and lids become droopier making you look older. I was thrown off by the works she did but if you look at her in this link from the ALS charity she is a part of, she really doesn't look THAT different. The change is mostly with her eyes. http://tinyurl.com/m8hndng She's still cute but we don't know how this will affect her career yet.

Because celebrities are just like everyone else. We all have insecurities. Most people would get change things about themselves if they could afford it. If celebrities admitted to having work done, people just satisfy their envy by saying "well she's had surgery, it's all fake anyway, that's why she's pretty." I agree that leading the public to believe that they naturally look like that can lead to unrealistic expectations, but if you look at them as individual people, they are the subject of a lot of scrutiny and want to feel good about themselves without others commenting that it's all artificial.

Hmmmm, because Hollywood is the display of the unattainable? They're all an illusion. But, this is kind of an unspoken rule, no? Its one of those things that is hush hush. Yet, we all know everybody in that world is doing it. And, uhhh their looks = their livelihood.

Ahem, Angelina Jolie???? Not that anything she's done has been bad. Au contraire! Her unspoken maintenance looks good, imo.

They didn't exactly look bad before. These celeb's really just do nips and tucks. They're in a hyper-competitive, jealous-ringed world. Admitting surgical enhancements is, I guess, analogous to being an athlete caught doping. These celeb's aim to make everybody think they're naturally that glowing.

Really, we need a daring celeb to just spill whatever they've had done. Why not? I wouldn't think any less of them for it. That stuff they do isn't easy. Some celeb's do tell.

I think they do it because they have to measure with the hollywood standards where everyone is perfect. Women who have little flaws or get older can´t compete with the perfect women. To be or to stay one of the hollywood beauties they have to do plastic surgery. And i think a lot more are doing it but it´s so good that nobody realizes.

Celebrities deny it because they want their fans to think of then as natural beauties. The fans would also think of them as shallow or stupid.

I've seen some that did the just refresh me surgery and looked just refreshed. Zellweger's 'look' always included chubby cheeks and hooded eyes. She removed both of those things and while still pretty, is no longer recognizeable. She gained and lost weight (sometimes the loss was extreme) for the Bridget Jones films and others, and the cheeks NEVER went down. I hope she doesn't end up like Jennifer Grey, who only changed her nose, and became unrecognizeable.

Lipo the double chin out, resuspend the muscles in the lower face to eliminate jowls and you really just look like your old self with the hag off. Mess with anything above that and you change the YOU everyone recognizes. STOP with the fat grafts and cheek fillers (Meg Ryan....man....another one)...or do as you will and live with the consequences.

Plastic surgery is something that is frowned upon because it makes you look different, or to put it best, unnatural. A lot of celebrities get plastic surgery because they feel that they want to stay young forever. Most people think that you should just let yourself age and really embrace your older years. I think that the reason celebrities deny plastic surgery is because, even though they may have had a procedure done, they feel that other people will scorn them for trying to look fake and not letting their bodies go through the natural aging process.
?
2014-10-26 07:32:15 UTC
Because they want to assure that everything is real.
2014-10-26 02:51:06 UTC
They don't want people viewing them as cheap, the short cut instead of caring for their bodies; in the matter of health, eating healthy, exercising regularly, being in an healthy environment: around positive people, leading a positive lifestyle, being with family, ending vicious cycles, taking a break from life itself.

Doing all of these things or something similar to it, shows a lot of work would be needed to be done, so they would rather go under the knife, just to look good: which is fake, not the real you.

People should respect their bodies, respect their unique beauty and appreciate what you have instead of viewing what you don't have. There is nothing wrong with making yourself look beautiful with natural ways or make-up BUT going under plastic surgery... crosses line and shows that you have an EXTREME low-self confidence, unsatisfied with your physical looks and looking at how good other people look. They want to look like a doll, which never going to happen unless you want to look like Ken doll. I feel bad for that man, he has zero self esteem or confidence in his physical appearance. THAT I find crossing the line and officially ruined the body and face you were born with and no one is ever going to see the real you. People who love you for who you are, love your physical appearance; because they are the beholder of your beauty.

Plastic Surgery is only acceptable when a person faces something as a freak accident to their body or face, and are in need of repairing what is left.

2014-10-25 01:36:10 UTC
I really think it is not her but something to do with a new movie. You know how Hollywood is they love mystery. She looks nothing like herself and no one just living right and eating right can change their features without plastic surgery. She really thinks we are stupid to believe that idea that she is just doing it through clean living. I am sure the DMV knows something about her because she would have to have had a new license because the photo on her drivers license has to look like her.

She could be an imposter. But then where is the real Renee Zellweger. Will the real Renee Zellweger please stand up?

It could be a hoax.

I think they have a whole gallery of those who have ruined their looks by too many surgeries and botox like Mickey O'Rourke and Meg Ryan who enlarged her lips and they look so ridiculous they are huge. she was so pretty and now she looks like a clown. I hope for her sake they have deflated. Hollywood does this to people it used to be just their weight now it is their looks having to look abnormal.

They used to be so skinny like Joan Van Ark she was so pretty and later on they had her looking so thin and her feature exaggerated and abnormal and for what? To look plastic and strange instead of the beauty she once was. They need to embrace their age. we all hope we get better as we get older.

I'm not really sure. But I think it is because they are lying to themselves first. They want to believe they were born a certain way, without those defects they wanted to fix. They were born beautiful, they didn't fix anything. They are not fake.

The sad truth is though that most of them don't really need it, and they are the only ones to see what's wrong with them.

Take for example Jennifer Grey from Dirty Dancing. She wasn't hired for any more movies after she changed her nose, which was perfectly fine as it was. Perfect for her, it made her a type. And now Renée Zellweger.

She's saying people ski looks different simply because she has aged. But the thruth is that she looks like a totally different person...and probably we won't see her in a movie again...Sad.
