Question:
Any reason why it's so hard for me to ask for help?

I've had the capacity to get things done on my own, both in school and at home, but I have the BIGGEST trouble asking for help, especially in school. I feel embarrassed at the thought of asking for it, and much worse when I actually ask for it.

I've done well this semester, but one class in particular (Calculus) has been stressing me out since day 1, and I've never had the courage to ask for help. Now, I'm at a high enough grade (C+) that I should still pass the class after next week (finals), but I've always asked the professor for his office hours, and even when I told him I would stop by and ask for help, I never did, once, and mainly because I psych myself out of it and it's been like this the entire semester.

So what I'm asking is: why is it so DAMN hard for me to ask for help? I always put myself down whenever I'm not able to, and even now I'm completely frustrated with myself.

I know it's a bit late to ask for help now, considering the fact that tomorrow's our last day of class before finals week. But what can I do to make asking for help easier come next semester? Overall, I HATE this feeling of letting myself down simply because I can't ask for help.

Well; the fact that you have posted this shows that you are not incapable of asking for help. It could be that you find it difficult to do it face to face or with people you know. I do have some theories on why that could be, but not knowing you or what your childhood and/or home life was/is like, I hesitate to jump to conclusions. For whatever reason - you may feel embarrassed to ask due to fear of appearing dumb or of asking a dumb question.

Find someone you trust and discuss this with them. Also, I know it is an old saying, but it is really true- "The only stupid question is the one that is not asked."

Well you probably do things that you know you will succeed at. That will limit the chances that you may ask for help. You were probably raised to be self reliant. I was the same way. Try a new Hobby. One that you have been interested in, but never got around to doing. Maybe a musical instrument. I gained an interest in guitar from watching my friends play. They had to teach me how. I learned to ask for help at that time.
