One of my loved ones recently mentioned that he has always wanted a traditional Japanese tea set. He speaks the language, has traveled to Japan, and is in love with the culture. Problem is, I know nothing about this. I've tried to do some research and have been to several sites advertising the authenticity of their tea sets, but if I were to mess this up, I would take a big hit in the wallet and the gift would be a great disappointment. I want this Christmas gift to be the best ever, as he is someone that truly deserves it, so is there anyone that could steer me in the right direction?

There are various types of Japanese tea and tea sets and I can imagine how it is confusing. If it is possible, please ask your loved one what does exactly "traditional Japanese tea set." mean. If he's talking about tea set for "Maccha (Matcha)" or something (Maccha is "powdered tea"), you need to purchase the set contains "Maccha cup", "bamboo whisk" and "bamboo spoon". Although powdered tea is not served for daily drinking use, there is a possibility that he's taliking about Maccha because he mentioned "traditional ".

These sets are for powdered tea.

If he's talking about common "leave tea" (not powdered), these are also "traditional " tea sets.

Anyway, since my English skill is poor and I can barely explain about Japanese tea, if you want further information, please check this site. I hope this website will help you.

Good luck!

Chabana (actually "tea flower") is the functional kind of flower association utilized in tea rite.
