I was reading an article on yahoo about obama, and all the comments were racial? i am really offended. Why do people stereotype people of color? I am black, im young married. Me and my hubby both work. i pay all my bills. I can not braid and i cannot dance. I do not use the latest slang and i do not watch bet that much. I don't really like chicken that much either! I just do not understand the ignorance of this country. If obama were a white man would people really care this much? I am not an obama crazed person, i didn't even vote for him, but i am happy that we will have a historic moment on january 20. I think this country will never be able to succeed and get through these trying times if we can not even pull together?

i ordered some obama shirts only because they looked really nice, like you, i'm not a crazed obama fan, but when my mom found out, she said,

"don't get beat up!" which meant that if i wear the shirt, some stupid ignorant idiot will get offended and attack me, because it has actually and ended up on the news. people have worn McCain shirts and nobody bothered them.

i have noticed, even on youtube that if there is a black guy present in a video, there is nothing but racial comments left. it is VERY sad. Obama can be mixed, but if his skin was more whiter, then yes, people wouldn't care as much about skin color, but since its brown, people are more ignorant. in my opinion its one of those things that i feel america will never get over, because for one, some of us to immature to even look past it.

Atheism isn't hateful contained in in the slightest degree. that may not to assert that there are some atheist who're hateful, yet many are friendly and accepting of human beings. in contrast to distinctive the preferable religions, atheism is a equipment that could coincide with all religions; monotheistic, polytheistic, nature, or in any different case. In my own experience, i've got met some Christians who're downright hateful to human beings of alternative religions. Being an atheist delivers the liberty to have self assurance something, without the limitations of a god or gods/goddess to soothe. Now there are distinctive instances a Christian or a Muslim or a member of (insert faith right here) has felt wronged via an atheist giving his/her very own opinion that's opposite to their very own and went online or on some form of media and complained that 'Atheists are all hateful jerk-offs.' And at an identical time as some are. maximum are not, in simple terms like in (insert faith right here) there are hateful people who're extra observed than others.

my opinion is that people are hateful because the need it...not necessarily to bring other people down but maybe because they are insecure or need to feel better about something. if there's no hate then how can there be love? i for one hate racism and i would know as well as you would. being a muslim in this country is not like a walk in the park. with all the terrorism in our world guess which race is the victim? i'm sure you know as the rest of the world does. i for one am always offended by that especially and i know how you feel. we just have to take a deep breath and realize that this is the inevitable no matter where we are. not just America but everywhere...having Obama as our president will hopefully bring more unity and peace in America especially when it comes to racism and stereotyping...i hope this helps

It has been a very real eye opener to me after coming here to YA, and actually seeing and reading the hate filled people's questions and answers. I must live a sheltered life here in a small community, as I have not been aware of this level of hatred. There is some in this community, but comparatively speaking, nothing like here on YA. I think YA gives us a truer picture of what is real in this nation. You are right, people are hateful, prejudiced and downright ugly to others. What a tragedy. As a Christian I see it and almost want to weep. I know the Lord Himself weeps over all this.

From what I've read in your question, why do you care about what people think of you so much? I mean, the stereotypers have you believing braiding hair, dancing, using slang, watching BET, and eating fried chicken are bad things. I want you to answer, what's the problem with those preferences?

I'm Black, and my family and I probably don't believe in braiding hair because it can cause damage, but in my perspective, I see nothing wrong with because it's a simple hair style it's obviously taken from African culture. Society's view may be negative on braids, but people should realize, it's a simple hairstyle and it doesn't define the person. Also, if you noticed, people other races or class speak with slang terminology, even Whites. Therefore, it isn't bad unless it literally harms someone. I mean, really, who cares about the way people speak? It means nothing.

As for BET, there's nothing wrong with that. I love BET, and I know for sure it doesn't represent Blacks, but rather the inner city. I don't have a problem with that because I'm an avid visitor of the inner city and it doesn't make me less of a person. People living in poorer areas are still human beings as well, and I say, let them have a lifestyle and sub-culture too. It shouldn't be despised.

As for dancing and eating fried chicken, you know for sure people do that. Taking a wild guess, I'll assume you're referring to similar dancing as in Hip-Hop music videos. Well, remember, if someone said that was a Black stereotype, they're unaware people of other races that do the same thing. If you looked at Reggaeton videos, Hispanic girls do the same thing, and White in Pop music. In my opinion, it's nor degrading or slutty, but instead, good fun because it harms no one and maturated woman are intelligent enough to make their own decisions.

Anyways, to answer your question, well, people have different personalities. Common sense fundamentally explains you can't expect everyone to behave in your preferred manner, for people have independent minds, thus, disallowing you to control them. (For instance, a person you consider 'mean' and 'hateful' could consider you hateful for going against their beliefs.) They can however, be influenced through a powerful voice, but it would take a while to take effect because, for contemporary to acquire it's state, it took years overcome the hardships pertaining, such as the Civil Rights Movement and the many wars throughout history, such as the American Civil.

To sum it up, people, because of their independent minds, behave differently, thus attributing what people would call 'mean,' 'nice,' and so forth qualities, because people have naturally different beliefs, which are all opinionated. Therefore, I say it's better to accept that and get used to it because when things are different and people have the right of free speech, people are guaranteed to agree and disagree, not matter the subject. See, we're Black and take a look at our history. Long ago, the government was in favor of keeping us separate, but after that was over, people disagreed with the outcome, and therefore, became racist. That, I have no problem with unless violence isn't involved.

That explains Obama. People don't have to dislike him simply because he's Black, but rather for other reasons such as his beliefs. Either way, it wouldn't bother me because they're personal opinions, which everyone has. I only hope violence isn't used with that particular hate. As for January 20th, I too can't wait. It would be a great of history to have actually been alive to experience rather than read in a history book. By the way, just because the country is going through a recession doesn't mean it's failing. Honestly, it HAS succeeded because free speech has been widely practiced and we, despite going through a recession, still have the highest GDP in all macroeconomics.

I agree with you, but most of america is still stuck back in the 40's and 60's. Ignorance is bliss, it is very sad that we are still living in a nation that continues to judge and degrade one another because of the color of our skin, our sex, education, and religion! all the things that Martin L. King Jr, Abe Lincoln, Rosa Parks and many fought for, for so many years has completely been disregarded. We just have to rise about and pray for those people.

i totally agree with you, it's really sad. but you know what? think about what happened on election night. look at all those people that cheered and roared over obama's victory. that right there shows that we as humans are changing and are opening our minds. the people that commented on the article are only a handful. don't let it get to you. don't add to the hate, love and embrace 'em :)

So honoring the fact that e is the first black rsident is now hateful? If he were treated normally you would complain he isn't getting the respect he deserves. There really is no pleasing evryone is there. Go get offended somewhere else. Yes we need to pull together but whites havedone everything possible to get along but it is impossible to shake hands when another group has clinched fist.

I agree with you completely. People are ignorant.

The bible tells me to pray for those who are in leadership whether we agree with their ideas or not.

I agree if we ALL come together we can succeed at anything that come at us.
