I do not see how you can ban the f word from school. people can say anything they want most of the time but cant say the f word.

No one cares if you say stupid or shutup, crap, crud, hello, goodbye or hate.

what sets this f word from all other words?

would it be fair for school administration to punish a kid for saying the f word given the circumstances it was not interrupting class and it was out in the hallway and it was said to one person without them caring while a teacher eavesdrops on the conversation?

My school policy book states all rules for my high school. It says nothing about profanity being disallowed. And even if it did, who is to say what is profanity and what isnt?

I think the only way you could actually ban the f word or any words for that matter, is to do the following:

1. state that the school establishment is controlling the language and thought of its students.
2. supply every person with a list of banned words

thank you, i would like your input.

I agree, freedom of speech in America is not as free as they say. You can also argue the question, what makes certain words "bad words" or "swear words" but the Board of Education is too ignorant to realize/understand this point.

What's wrong with that word is it's rude, inappropriate and extremely unprofessional. You're kind of putting an oxymoron on the high school system.

Students constantly complain about not having respect from teachers because of the rules they enforce, saying they should be treated like anyone would in a professional setting, but no one in an office would go around swearing.

Yes, it may be used at home or with friends every other word, but dignified people with any class know better than to use it in public.

actually, saying the f-word anywhere anytime is bad and really a rule-breaker.. what rule? god's rules.. you see, for somebody the f-word is just a word, just another 4-letter word.. but maybe, just maybe, for sumbody else that f-word is a living word for him/her, a word that says sumting more than 'crap, stupid' and all the other things you listed there.. saying the f-word is just okay but for others, that's another story.. i think it just matters when, where and whom you say it to.. mind you, the school is not a good place to say that f-word, there are too many people affected there..

also, it doesn't necessary mean that the skul should provide you with a list of banned words, just watch your language and tame your tongue..

You have to understand that weather the 'word' is banned or not, it will still be used, and more than likely--- more often just because it is banned.

I guess my opinion would be yes, you should be able to use it. We do have 'freedom of speech' and nobody can stop you from saying it. But talking with profaine words just makes you look stupid. Like really, can't you find another word. Its up to the people how they want to present themselves to others.

being a "free" American is not all it is cracked up to be, huh?

it sucks, but it is reality...while still in school you live beneath other people's rules...even at home...when you move out on your own you will see that you still live within other rules...society, so to speak...sometimes it sucks, sometimes it doesnt... when you are on your own you will be able to make the choices that are right for you and live with them...until then you are stuck following the rules of your world...sorry, but thats reality

Respect for other people and self respect should be the only rule you need.

If what you say breaks either of those then you shouldn't say it.

Just because you have a desire to disrupt school, doesn't mean everyone else should suffer for your delusion of grandeur. Not everyone cares or wants to hear what you think. Don't dumb down everyone else while you ride the fast train to cooking the fries.

because it is crude and crass. You can't always say what you want. There is a time and place for everything and school is not the place to use the f-word.

i dont see the reason to use profanity at all. what can this word really do for you that other words cannot? pointless.
