Why do people make fun of others?

Honestly... I don't get why? You might say they're jealous, or they lack self-esteem.... or whatever.... but what is the reason behind making fun of others? There are a few kids in my class that everyone makes fun of, and it really bothers me even though I'm never the one causing the joke or alarming the zone or anything. Sometimes I comment on something very innocent about something, and they end up making it worse and making me look like I was making fun of those kids. And as for the ones that make fun of others, well there is a girl herself who at some point stopped talking to the other girls who make fun of others because of some cat fight they got into lol, so then they stopped talking to one another and the others ended up making fun of HER. What the hell? This "HER", she herself started making fun of another completely different person in front of me and I told her she ought not to talk that way, but she simply said "Man, I know I am ugly, but not THAT ugly!!!" sorry, I ain't making fun of her, but the other girl is ten times nicer than her herself. Now she's friends back again with the girls that hurt others, and they've started making of people yet again... except that now they're only two bullies instead of three, because one left school and moved out. Well... still, what do you reckon? Why do people make fun of others, if them themselves reckon they ain't any better!!!!??? Oh and as for the other girl, not the one who moved out or the one that reckons she's ugly, but the other one, she and I used to be best friends. Ever since I dumped her because I noticed she had become very rude and mean, she started being pure evil, and hurting everyone!!! Perhaps it was my fault and this is why I'm feeling guilty? Perhaps if I wouldn't have stopped being her friend, she would have stayed at least nice at some degree... and not mocking...

People who make fun of others excessively and at the extreme end of the spectrum,bullies, seem to enjoy the feeling that they are making others feel less important than them. Especially if they can get those around them to go along and laugh at the victim's expense. Something that is easy in grade school and high school, before most have had the chance to fully develop emotionally and intellectually. So yes it comes down to a feeling of insecurity, which everyone at one time or another goes thru but manages to overcome it without becoming a bully. What causes that insecurity? Could be lots of things.

idk i think it's because people don't know how to accept "different". many people seem very close minded && being different alarms them in some way, for whatever reason. Another reason may be because they do, in fact, have low self-esteem and putting others down makes them feel more important. maybe some day we'll all have enough self-respect to respect others...doubtful, though.

i didnt read the wall of text, but people make fun of people cuz it's funny. it's fun to make fun of people and have a good laugh.

Because they talk too much about stupid s***!
