Some scientists believe the earth has only a limited carrying capacity, and we are nearing that point if not already surpassed it... will population control be necessary in the future to ensure there aren't more people than the environment/resources can handle? Even if it might be considered immoral?

The problem with overpopulation isn't physically fitting people on the planet, as some seem to think. It is feeding everybody and supplying the cars, fuel and stuff that people want in their lives. We are already consuming natural resources at a frightening rate and some minerals and resources are already beginning to look scarce.

For example, helium is becoming scarce and is predicted to be a problem by 2030, but we are still filling balloons with the stuff with worldwide demand for helium balloons still increasing as the population goes up!

We may have to choose between population control and resource control some time soon if we continue to consume natural resources at the current rate. It will be interesting to see which option governments and people choose.

Maybe we will choose a maximum age limit rather than restricting birth, like in the film Logan's Run. I'm sure our government would like that as it would solve the pensions problems as well!

Yes!! It shouldn't require a degree in sociology, or anthropology to see it. Just look out your window. We are not feeding large portions of our population now. We are depleting our natural resources at an alarming rate. We've polluted our air, our water, and most of the arable land, that we try to grow crops on. Most cities have areas with social problems, directly attributable to overcrowding. Many countries in the world are fighting over land. Land they must have to expand THEIR population. An expansion that has to be at the expense of another expanding population. We needed a world wide moratorium on birth 30 or 40 years ago. Even that might not have helped. We are not dieing fast enough!!

It's time to forget all the religious, and racial BS, and do something intelligent, to help the human race survive. Quit reproducing!!! You will die, before you notice a drop in population. It certainly will NOT negatively effect you!!! In spite of what crazed racists, and religious nuts, tell you!!!

Help us and yourselves too.

If you've ever watched The Conspiracy Theory, you'd see that a lot of world leaders are part of a group that believes in population control-poisoning "organic" food that we digest, poisoning our kids with "vaccinations".

On the show, you'll see that the host believes that it's very frightening and wrong that people believe in population control, but he also agrees that it's very necessary. I agree also, but I couldn't think of a world where we'd be limited to children, or where children came down with deadly diseases. The problem is people are having more kids than they should, and people are living longer and longer. Unnaturally long lives.

In my opinion, we should start with Asia-China and Japan. In America we need a better system for welfare-too many people on welfare having kids they can't afford.

In the 60's Dr Nathan Erlich wrote "The Population Bomb" which predicted mass starvation and die offs due to epidemics and over population by the 1980's. Here it is 2013 and no such prediction has become reality. A classic lesson in the believability of experts.

It will be over populated someday but not soon way down the line in America we have plenty of room but people in developing nations usually overpopulated their countries

The earth is huge and can support way more people. Population control alarmists are using scare tactics to frighten you in to giving up one of the most(if not the most) basic human right. The right to reproduce.

No, not at all. I have heard somewhere that the entire world population could fit into the state of Florida (don't know how accurate that is) but population control is not an issue
