We have 8 smoke alarms that are hard wired in our house. Every morning at 4:30 am, the alarms start going off. We have changed the batteries, etc. Can't figure out why they go off at the same time every morning. This just started a week ago and we have been in the house for 5 years. Any answers?

Personally, I'd ask a professional who can actually examine your system. The rest of us are just shooting arrows in the air.

Are there any radioactive materials in your house? I have also found that a very, very steamy shower will set off some in the vicinity. Unscrew it and check to see if there is a ceiling leak. Try relocating it to a new position in a different place before discarding it. Drop it in the Home Depot basket at the entrance. They recycle stuff like batteries, so maybe they recycle radioactive materials too. Your smoke alarm has them. Or, ALL of the batteries you are trying may be too old and weak. Sometimes they are like that out of a new package, and you should get a refund from the store where you bought them. Happens more often with Dollar store batteries made in third nations. Sorry, that is all I cold think of right now.

Some smoke detectors detect radon , carbon monoxide and other gases . I would have a pro check it out before its to late.

With all the door closed the gases could be building up slowly at night

If they are hard wired, then they don't use batteries. So which type of alarms do you have? Hardwired or battery? Are they interconnected or does only one of them go off? First you need to locate the room that the problem is in.

Listen to David G. It doesn't matter why, just replace them for your safety.

Why? There must be a clock or cycle program in the system that is misfiring (a connection trips at 430am that sets them off). Without knowing the type of system that's all the info I can offer.

if you have any timers in the same electrical circuit, they may be having an affect.

I would replace the smoke detector because it may not work when you really need it.

Some sort of power surge?
