I know where your coming from. Usually wireless routers can be configured to setup a password (WEP) or any other types of encryption. You will need the CD that came with the wireless router, if you do not have the CD you will need to "google" the wireless router "brand" and "model type". From there you download the driver. Once you download the driver, connect your desktop/laptop directly to the wireless router using a ethernet cord. Once your computer detects the router, install the driver software and configure the settings of your choice. Remember to save the password information on "notepad" and save it to your desktop in case you forget. I hope this helps.

you would be looking at ton of money. get a honeywell home security system which will only cost a few hundred, and a seperate camera system. the camera systems can be loaded into your computer and onto the internet where you can view it anywhere and have alerts sent to you. they will also only record when there's motion if you want it to. if you wanted to go more in depth, add a fingerprint scanner to your security system. it will allow your neighbors to get in and it will also keep a log of who came in and what time. you can also attach wireless sensors to things in your home. once the device gets moved more than 100-200 feet away from your receiver (depending on which receiver you get) it will automatically set off the alarm system. its a good idea with the camera system thing and i understand exactly what you're thinking about, but the bottom line is, you'll be looking at thousands upon thousands of dollars. a properly installed security system will take care of all of your concerns except the camera part of it. if you're really intersted in it, let me know exactly what you want to protect (tv's, doors, jewelry box, etc.) and i can put together a system for you for a lot less than you think. you can email me at alarmax@honeywellmonitoring.com i've been working on a website, honeywellmonitoring.com, where i'm uploading do-it-yourself videos, sounds, specs, $15 monitoring without a contract, etc. i give full warranties with everything too. you can also call me at 1-866-max-today.

That sounds a little too complicated for me. My husband and I just bought a system that kind of sounds similar from FrontPoint Security (http://www.frontpointsecurity.com). The whole thing is wireless and you can tag anything that basically moves. We even have one on our cleaning cabinet to make sure that the kids don't get into the cleaning supplies when we aren't looking. My husband installed it himself in about 30 minutes. The company can alert you through text messages, phone calls or on your e-mail too I think, which is kind of cool and you get alerted instantly. Each person gets their own security code so you can monitor who goes into which room and when. The whole system cost around $100 and the monitoring is around $30 a month which is pretty cheap. You have a neat idea, but you should definitely check out Front Point before spending all of that money on face recognition software and all.
