The question wasn't if YOU are frightened by , but why most people are frightened by it. I think most people are frightened, not by itself, but by passing through the "doorway" from this life and the next one, and how that passage "works." Those of us who are assured of where we are going--those who believe in an afterlife, and believe that heaven/paradise will be much better than this life, have nothing to fear from , do not fear ....but still, the passage through the "doorway" may still unsettle someone a bit...And I just looked at the sub-question...no, does not frighten me...Because I, as a Christian, believe in what the Bible has said about heaven, salvation.

Death of the phyiscal body most often means pain for self (and for others who love you) so it is frightening. If there is no pain then the uncertainty is uncomfortable. Living your life with an awareness and in preparation for the next life - then no worries. Death of the spiritual body - that would take up too much space here. Me? Not frightened at all. Why? Living well based on universal law and Heart.

Death frightens people because they know that is the end of their life. Maybe they feel that they have more things to accomplish or they have left so many things undone. Death does not frighten me. I have made peace with the fact that I am going to die someday and there is nothing I can do to stop that. Any I can do now is to do the best I can everyday that I am alive.

It does frighten me because I would not exist anymore and after a while you would just be dirt and dust, but do believe in heven.

If you do go to heven it isn't frightening to die.

It give me the shivers thinking about it!

It was like in a book that I read:

"Everything dies, they all go to better places,

not all can come back to earth, and i wouldn't recomend it, because then you go through life as a gohst, staying the same age and no one being able to see you."

and if you read Tuck Everlasting

the tuck family drank water from a spring and stayed the same age forever, they really did not like it and they alway wonderd what heven would be like.

So it isn't the end, it the begining.

But i fear of being murdered, i want to stay in this world the longest i can.

and some people fear they wont get to do eveything they want to:

Get married

go skydiving

have kids

go camping

travle to a different country

climb a mountin

swim with the fish

see runes: pyrimides, castles etc.

see land marks:niagra falls, eiffle tower, great wall etc.

so do eveything while your young, my dad did what he wanted and is very educated, and is fluent in french, and chinese!

Despite protestations of a belief in an afterlife, most people, I think, do not have much confidence at all about it and would really would like a money back guarantee or promissory note.. They are afraid of the uncertainty.

Even more frightening is the vast , empty, dark void into which we dissolve and which is our most probably destiny.

Am I frightened by the prospects? I'd say I'm more resigned to them.

The most frightened seem to be those who continue to struggle with the human concepts of Heaven and Hell. No, I'm not frightened, but am intensely curious. I have to laugh at myself for that, thinking that if there is nothing after this my curiosity was all in vain - but I'LL never know it lol.

Death frightens many people due to the fact that none of us have experienced it first hand before so we don't know for sure what to expect. All we can have is faith in what we believe in and hope for the best. I fear death for that reason but it's not my biggest fear by far.

To quote Keats, "Nothing dies; All things must change". I think death is just the opening to a new beginning. I guess its frightening to some because they don't know what will happen. I don't know either, but I look at it as an adventure, not finale.

Death doesn't frighten me, but I don't want a painful death. I think that is what most people really fear.
2006-08-17 11:25:07 UTC
Not scared since I learned to really believe in afterlife-that death is not a ending but another beginning. That is the fear -the unknown -for no one has returned and told. Then too people are scared of the judgment to come-the burning in hell or purgatory-according to what they believe. Why I try my best not to do a bunch of bad stuff. People should read the bible so they can inform themselves for the knowledge will make them less afraid.

I'm not afraid of death i am however afraid of the way death has a way of happening... people are afraid of the way they are going to die so they fear death its only natural you hear of people dying in the most gruesome ways. but the majority of people are afraid of death because its inevitable think about it people die doing things we can avoid driving,sleeping,eating... the really frightening thing is that 90% of us wont even be remembered

No, it doesn't frighten me, I veiw death as life on the other side of the 2 way mirror that they can see us but we can't see them. Death is life, just another form of life.......... people are always afraid of what they don't know. That is why people fear death.

It frightens people because they don't know when or how or why it will happen, and what will happen afterwards. It's the fear of the unknown. Lots of people don't want their death to hurt. I don't fear death because I have faith that when i go it'll be when God wants me to, and I know I'll be with Him.

Death frigtens most people because the associate the termination of the body with the termination of their own selves.

It does not frighten me because I know I am not the body.

I try not to let it.

I think it is instinctual and natural to be frightened of death. We have an inborn SURVIVAL instinct, as all animals do. If we didn't have this instinct, we wouldn't last very long.

Furthermore, none of us have any SOLID proof of what happens when we do die.

Because people are worried about the unknown. They are scared of not existing anymore. I am not scared to die, but i do try to avoid it if possible. I am not worried about the afterlife, and i do think there is one. And if there is not, then i won't even know im gone. I'm kinda looking forward to dying, it is a once in a lifetime experience.

Fear of the unknown; fear of change.

Death holds no fear for me. I have faced it before and, as most people who have had an experience that has brought them close to the end of this life will tell you, it tends to change ones perceptions of death. That, and due to what I believe I know concerning the 'afterlife'.

:)

Fear of the unknown. In my case, and in the case of many who believe in a better life after this one, there can still be a fear of the manner of death they will have, if it will be painful, etc. Humans and animals both are "programmed" with a survival instinct.

After death is the judgement.

Hebrews 9

"27Just as man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment,"

But there is hope.

"28so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many people; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him."

because no one knows for sure what will happen after life (even if people are religious...no being actually guarantees a certain outcome for u after life).

also...dying can be physically painful, people like their life now & don't want to leave this world...without knowing what lies beyond, people have responsibilities in this world (children or a business for example) that they want to take care of, others didn't get a chance to do certain things...and to think they cannot do them bothers them.

Death doesn't scare anyone.

Its just the thought of being dead. No one will see you anymore. You can't enjoy the simple things in life anymore.

Hey Cheyenne, if death doesn't bother you, go have lunch on a train track, or jump out of a building right now.

Nothing I can do about it to avoid it forever.

Instinct - self-preservation.

The fear of the actual process of dying - pain, etc.

Not seeing loved ones, caring for them, or having control.

The fear of nothingness - of not enjoying the world. The fear of not existing. Of being forgotten.

No one wants the party to end.

Faith offers comfort.

No. It is inevitable, and the utter end. No spirit jumping. No heaven. No hell. Just worm food. Once everyone realizes that, they can stop believing in religious fairytales, and stop killing each other.
