I was attempting to decide whether or not I should start hand-rolling my cigarettes. I am shocked at the sudden increase in cigarette taxes in my state, and I have heard that rolling your own cigarettes can be less expensive. I smoke clove cigarettes, if that matters. I know that hand-rolling does not eliminate or decrease health risks. And yes, I do know that smoking is detrimental to your health. I don't need any anti-tobacco spam, though I appreciate your concern.

Where I live I pay ten bucks for 12 ounces of tobacco. That tobacco makes about two cartons. Add about four bucks for filters and two bucks for papers. That's $16 for two cartons of cigarettes. That is in Missouri which has one of the lowest tobacco tax in the country. The tobacco I use is labeled as pipe tobacco but in fact it has just been relabeled to avoid the federal tax.

I don't think it has any health benefits, but it does have a cost benefit. packs in my area cost $4/5 per pack and cartons cost $50 ... try having 2 parents who spent $20 a day on cigs.... my dad bought a $60 roller that rolls them good and quickly, and buys big bags of tobacco for $20, those bags last both of my parents 1-2 weeks, and they both smoke 3 packs a day... so $20 a week is wonderful compared to $20 a day. and, my oldest brother, who is 24 and very social, has no social consequences at all, i actually don't see how it could have any affect. I think rolling your own is a million times better and cheaper than buying the packs/cartons. but, at first, my parents didn't really like it, they said the tobacco tasted funny, and after a day or so they got use to it.
