the exact change? What about drive through fast food places? Do you check your receipts from those places as well? Or do you assume the financial transaction is good?

I check my receipt and I watch my scanner as my items are being scanned to make certain that I'm being charged the correct amount. A lot of times the scanner isn't set for the sale price and I have to have the cashier correct it. I work too hard for my money and with the cost of fuel, I have to watch my pennies. Besides, no one is above human error. 2D

here is the legal scoop. your under no obligation to allow them to check your receipt once you pay for it it is your merchandise. they may not hold you if they attempt to hold you and you have not committed a crime it is false imprisonment under the law. when they stop You to check the receipt just say I am not taking the time for this today so unless your actually accusing me of a theft I am not stopping. have a good day. most have been trained not to bother you past this point. if they do hold you up and you want to push it ask for a police officer to be summoned or that you be released, if they hold you against your will with no proof you committed a theft and they are just pissed you do not give up the receipt they are committing false arrest and can be sued. under no circumstances allow a private merchant to take you out of public view. There have been several cases where a retailer has held a Consumer against there will for several hours where the Consumer has not committed a crime. one incident in particular the stored paid several million in damages.IDIOTS! All the merchants want to answer and say they have a right to detain you for this reason or that. For this amount of time or that limited amount. THAT IS NOT THE LAW!!!! ONCE THE CONSUMER HAS PAID THEY ARE FREE TO LEAVE. I have a BS in Criminal justice and have completed the first two yrs of law school. I found this topic to be of personal interest and have researched the law. If you detain a customer for any reason other than as a shoplifter it is false imprisonment, you will pay if you do it!

I don't check to make sure they gave me the exact change at say the grocery store or when shopping. I only check the receipt when I go to a fast food place to make sure they get my order right!

Trust yourself. Check receipt and change if purchase is in cash.

Experience leads me to plan purchases. Add items as you shop. Separate sale items or coupon discount purchases. Present items to cashier in an order which allows verification of price and running total. Halt at discrepancies. Anything about which cashier is not certain or disagrees with shopping plan, ask for manager. It is OK to be a pain. It's your money.

If total varies from plan examine purchases and receipt for discrepancy before you leave store. Stay with shopping plan and budget. This is a good cash management control.

Plan shopping trips when store is not busy. Congestion and confusion contribute to distractions and mistakes.

Planning and budgeting are useful safeguards.

I just assume they give me the right change, i work in a fast paced retail environment and know theres nothing more annoying than people that stand there "checking the pennies" whilst holding the que up.

Unlss its something obvious like a missing £5 note.

I do the math while I choose products. And I continue to do the math as the checker rings it all up. And, yup, I'm still doing math when I see the sub-total & total. I think everyone should do as such instead of being lazy.

my mom alwayes stands there makes sure everything is as it should be because she doesnt joke about her money (which no one should) because sometimes she explained to me they will mess up on purpose so they can pocket some of your money at the end of the day so the books will be even if there is any overage dont EVER trust those people ! You think they are supposed to like there job or actually care about the customer? Not likely ..........
