I work at a pizza shop, and whenever I'm on the phone with a customer, or taking care of an in-store customer, no matter how mean or rude they may be (and trust me, customers can be pretty mean, haha), I always tell them "Thanks! Have a nice evening!" or if they were particularly mean and just plain angry to me, I might say "Hope your day gets better!" I mean, you never know. Maybe they just needed to hear a cheerful voice after a rough day. I like all my customers, regardless of their behavior or looks, and I would never discriminate as to who I would wish a nice day! It makes me smile when someone says that to me, so why not give that joy to a stranger :]

Some cashiers are friendly and talkative...some aren't. They are people with personalities, not just robots. In the smaller shops, like book shops or coffee shops, the cashiers get less customers, so they are more friendly to them. So at my favorite coffee shop the waitress always has a big smile and kind words for me, even though they do often get more attractive customers.

As a cashier you are usually the first and last person a customer sees. To get and keep your customers you should always treat them equally regardless of their looks. Greet them professionally and always tell them to have a nice day or something equivalent.
Short answer...Yes, tell everyone to have a nice day.

My wager may well be that they do no longer prefer to sound like they are spouting out a robotic reaction to each shopper. the customer at the back of the customer they simply reported 'Have a constructive day' to needless to say heard them say it and it would look impersonal to assert it back. a minimum of that's what exchange into dealing with my ideas whilst i might say that to shoppers as quickly as I labored with the regular public. i did no longer say 'Have a constructive day' each time yet I did a minimum of attempt again up with some thing diverse a minimum of each few communities of shoppers.
